LOS ANGELES has recently moved to the forefront of the contemporary art scene with HVW8 Gallery playing a pivotal role. HVW8 stands at the heart of Art, Music and Design in this emerging scene, bringing diverse groups together for its celebrated openings and exhibitions since 2006. In continuing its avant-garde tradition, HOME & AWAY is an exhibition series featuring HVW8 alumni from LA and NY making their European debuts. The exhibition will open at the Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan and closes out in Amsterdam at the Andenken Gallery.

French multitalented (photographer, Video/Ad director and Creative Director of Blast Magazine) Remi Ferrente captured all those moments in this video report.

LISA LEONE
Born in the Bronx and raised throughout New York City, Lisa Leone has been surrounded by hip-hop culture for virtually her entire life. By the late eighties, as a widely published photographer, she was in a unique position to capture a behind-the-scenes perspective on the spirit of collaboration that fueled hip- hop’s early artistic triumphs. “To see a young Nas in the studio with Q-Tip, Premier and Large Professor was not only inspiring,” she reflects on one of the candid photos included in the show, “it is ‘the decisive moment’.”

HASSAN RAHIM
Hassan Rahim b. 1987, Los Angeles. Hassan Rahim is an artist and art director living and working in Los Angeles. His work, reminiscent of vague childhood memories and adolescent fantasies, utilizes photography, collage and mixed media to create strong contextual pieces which are both appealing and alarming to the audience. When his works are viewed as a whole, his obsessions become evident— marble surfaces, hoop dreams, deconstructed portraits of childhood idols, the exaggera- ted opulence associated with mid-90s celebrity athletes, and the American space program; executed in a manner that often exudes a sense of darkness within its message.

ALESSANDRO MORODER
Lives and works in Los Angeles. In his paintings and installations, Alessandro Moroder examines the masculine psyche through the notion of the spectacle by exploring it within various lenses, languages, and time periods. Whether it be the sheer size of the work, the layering of nostalgic text from his childhood or the post-modern stripe as a representation of lineage, each work creates a different dynamic while keeping the vernacular as true as possible. He uses his multilingual upbringing to guide certain aspects such as specific text, scale, or theme. Subject matter such as the attraction to being a misbehaved youth, Italian football and its social history, or the group as the individual in sport lend itself to a personal taxonomy of the male identity.


HVW8 ART + DESIGN GALLERY
HVW8 Art + Design Gallery was founded in 2006 with a focus of supporting fine art & avant-garde graphic design. It soon became one of the premier underground galleries in Los Angeles and over the past 7 years has exhibited emerging and established artists from around the world. HVW8 has also hosted numerous musical performances and special events, continuing to cement its reputation under gallery curator Tyler Gibney as an exhibition space for artists to showcase their varied creative expression. Past exhibitors include Parra, Geoff McFetridge, Hanni El Khatib, Kevin Lyons, Hassan Rahim, Mark Gonzales, Lisa Leone and Craig Costello (aka Krink).

Miller Rodriguez plus connu sous son alias Pretty Puke (qui en dit long sur le personnage) est l'homme qui se cache derrière (l'objectifs de ) la dernière campagne Alife qui a été décliné sur quelques tshirts (ou vice versa). Grace à lui Alife est clairement revenu sur le devant de la scène, distancé dernièrement par tous les Diamonds Supply, Benny Gold ou encore Supreme.

   Après la très réussi Journée des Disquaires (Record Store Day), place à la Cassette Store Day! La première édition aura lieu le 7 Septembre prochain. 

   Cette idée est venue après plusieurs échanges entre Steve Rose, qui est à la tête du Label SexBeats (Fear of Men, Eagull), Matt Flagg du label Suplex Cassettes ( Spectrals, Fair Ohs) et de la journaliste de BBC Jen Long (label Kissability). 

Des performances auront lieu à Rough Trade (East London) , Burger Records à Los Angeles, Big Love à Tokyo et les blogs Mirror Universe, Godmode et Gimme Tunitus organisent un rassemblement à Silent Barne à Brooklyn.

   Selon Jen Long: "Contrairement au Record Store Day, cette journée à plus pour but de célébrer ce format, qui serait en train de faire son grand come back, plutôt que de mettre en avant des boutiques. J'image qu'en dehors de mon cercle de passionnées indépendants, cette journée provoquera des réactions du type ' Fucking Hipster', mais il ne s'agit pas uniquement de quelque de cool parce que vintage. Les cassettes ont un réel rôle dans le climat économique et musical actuel, sans parler du fait que c'est aussi la manière la plus romantique de partager la musique."

Brodinski and Manu Barron are taking the Bromance imprint to the USA, as announced on a Facebook post on Bromance Records.

Brodinski said in a statement that the new label, Bromance US, was formed in partnership with their pals Skrillex and company at Owsla, the "American extension of the family".

The first release from Bromance US will be from Toronto-based artist Illangelo, his debut album 'History of Man', out on August 20. Also in the works is an EP from Louisahhh!!! and a collaborative project from Brodinski & Theophilus London.

Jay-Z says of his former Roc-A-Fella Records partner Dame Dash: "What we built, you can't take that away."

Jay-Z took what were assumed to be veiled shots at former Roc-A-Fella Records partner Dame Dash on his 2006 single "Lost Ones." Today, (July 9), the Brooklyn rapper says during an interview with New York radio station Hot 97 that their work together was historical and that he still has love for his former partner.

"What we built, you can't take that away," Jay-Z says during the interview. "No matter what, no time or space. No matter how many years I ain't seen him, the love is still there because what we've done will forever be stamped in history. We created something that's going to go down forever. I can only have love for Damon."

Jay-Z also spoke on a potential reunion with Dash without being provoked. "I just don't know where we are in our life," Jigga says. "Are we the same two young men at that time? Will we gel in that way? We were two different people. I haven't seen him in a while. I can't remember when was the last time."

Dame Dash recently posted a Vine of him listening to Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail, an experience he called "bittersweet." Dame Dash was recently hit with a $2.8 million tax lien and has had financial problems for several years.

Jay-Z says that he doesn't regret their falling out and that he has confidence in Dame Dash. "In life, I can't control everything, all the things in life," Jay-Z says during the Hot 97 interview. "I have ultimate confidence in him that he'll find his way 'cause he's an amazing and really smart guy...He's a hustler and he's highly intelligent, so I always root for him and always believe that he'll find his way out of it."

Celebrating great American Music, this year’s line-up features headliners like Beyoncé and Nine Inch Nails alongside musicians such as Queens Of The Stone Age, deadmau5, Phoenix, Calvin Harris, Empire Of The Sun, Imagine Dragons, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miguel, Public Enemy, Solange, 2 Chainz, The Gaslight Anthem, A$AP Rocky, Walk The Moon, Nero, Feed Me, Porter Robinson, Wolfgang Gartner, Fitz & The Tantrums, Emile Sandé, Haim, Schoolboy Q, AB Soul, GTA, Robert Delong, Redlight, Mord Fustang, Alunageorge, Jay Rock, Jesse Rose and TJR.

Over the weekend the A.P.C. Kanye capsule collection was finally announced with a July 14 release date. A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou said that the line is very small, only consisting of a jean, a t-shirt, and a hoodie – basic items that should not be missing in any wardrobe.
